Mumbai Police have denied the Cockroach Janta Party permission to hold a protest at Shivaji Park on October 2 against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, citing court orders, missing civic clearance and public-order concerns.

In a letter dated September 27 addressed to the party’s national president Ajinkya Shinde, the Shivaji Park police station said it is not empowered to grant permission for gatherings at the ground under a 2013 Bombay High Court judgment in PIL No. 116/2009 and a Maharashtra government order of January 20, 2016. Police also cited the absence of mandatory Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation clearance, the area’s silence-zone status, and concerns over noise, traffic and access to nearby hospitals.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke called the denial an attempt to suppress citizens’ voices. He warned the party would launch a “Jail Bharo Andolan” in Mumbai on Gandhi Jayanti if the right to protest was blocked. On September 28 he confirmed the plan.

The protest is part of the CJP’s campaign demanding Kumar’s resignation over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The Election Commission has defended its decisions, saying they followed applicable processes.
