EC Extends Electoral Roll Revision Dates in AP, Meghalaya

The Election Commission of India has extended the schedule of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Andhra Pradesh and Meghalaya, the poll body announced on Wednesday.
The decision was taken at a full Commission meeting in New Delhi attended by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners S.S. Sandhu and Vivek Joshi.
In Andhra Pradesh, the disposal of claims and objections will now continue till October 10, and the final electoral roll will be published on October 16. The state’s draft roll, published on July 31, lists over 3.71 crore voters.
In Meghalaya, the final publication of the electoral roll has been moved to October 26. The Commission said the extensions will help complete pending hearings on no-mapping and logical discrepancy cases, as well as unresolved applications filed through Forms 6, 7 and 8.
The move comes days after the poll body deferred the final publication schedule in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Delhi, Telangana, Odisha, Haryana and Punjab.
The revision process involves over 46,000 booth-level officers in Andhra Pradesh. The Commission said the extensions aim to ensure that no eligible voter is left out of the rolls.
