CJP to Launch Protest Today Over Voter List Issues, Demands CEC Exit

Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP) will begin a protest campaign from Mumbai on October 2 over alleged irregularities in the voter list revision, the organisation announced.

CJP trustee Abhijeet Dipke told news agency PTI that the protest will start at Shivaji Park in Dadar and then move to Goa, Bengaluru, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Patna and Ranchi. A protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi is planned from late October.

Dipke demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging flaws in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The organisation said it will not join the opposition's October 6 protest, choosing to run its own campaign instead.

The Election Commission has not yet responded to the allegations. Opposition parties have separately been raising questions about the SIR exercise in recent weeks.

The campaign is expected to focus on what CJP describes as mass deletion of names and errors in the draft rolls.
