Form 6 row: EC, Rahul Gandhi and BJP clash over voter forms

A political dispute has erupted over alleged changes made to Form 6, the statutory application for new voter registrations, after the Supreme Court made observations on the issue.
Chief Justice of India Surya Kant observed while hearing a plea seeking the suspension of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar: “Any modified Form 6 has not been approved by us. Let’s be clear. When the record is produced, we would like to see who has modified.”
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has used the observations to step up the opposition’s attack on the Election Commission. BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra addressed a press conference countering Gandhi’s allegations on the EC and voter enrolment.
The row has become the sharpest charge yet against the poll body, ahead of the INDIA bloc’s Save Democracy march. The EC has dismissed the allegations made by the opposition.
The EC has rejected the opposition’s charges. The BJP has called the campaign frustration after defeat. The court will take up the matter again soon.
