Fadnavis wants Marathi to be a language of AI

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on October 3 called for Marathi to become a language of artificial intelligence and modern knowledge.
Speaking at SNDT Women’s University in Mumbai, Fadnavis inaugurated the Classical Marathi Language Week and Classical Marathi Language Honour Day programme.
He said efforts will be made to strengthen Marathi as a digital and knowledge language by increasing its use in AI, quantum computing, space technology and biotechnology.
Fadnavis noted that Marathi ranks 13th among the world’s most spoken languages and that its classical-language status, granted by the Centre in 2024, is a matter of pride.
He urged greater Marathi content on digital platforms, OTT services and social media, and said advanced subjects should be taught in the mother tongue so younger generations learn in Marathi.
The Classical Marathi Language Week runs from October 3 to October 10, according to the organisers. Events include literary programmes, seminars and competitions in schools and colleges across the state.
