India is providing health security through the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation to 25 crore people, Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Monday. He was speaking at the CII-EFI National Conference on Industrial Relations and Labour Awards 2026 in New Delhi.

Mandaviya highlighted the scale of the government’s social security programmes. He said the government is also providing free food grains to 80 crore people, while 10 crore farmers receive 2,000 rupees every four months through direct transfers into their bank accounts.

The minister said 10 states deposit amounts such as 2,000, 1,500 or 1,200 rupees every month into the accounts of women. He stressed that India’s approach to industrial relations must balance international labour frameworks with the country’s own traditions.

Mandaviya also urged states to review the utilisation of labour welfare cess funds. He has called for better assessment of Labour Codes implementation one year after they came into force.
