Democratic lawmakers are demanding answers from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. They say at least a dozen transgender service members forced out under President Trump’s military ban never got the separation pay they were promised.

Seven House members sent a letter to Hegseth on September 24. It cites an August 26 Washington Post report on the missing payments. One Army National Guardsman with young twins is waiting on a $130,000 check. An Air Force major who flew search-and-rescue helicopters was supposed to receive $340,000. A Texas National Guard member is owed more than $66,000.

“This is unacceptable and appears to be another broken promise by this administration to those who have served,” the letter says. The lawmakers asked Hegseth to respond by October 14.

The letter was signed by Reps. Chrissy Houlahan, Sarah McBride, Adam Smith, Mark Takano, Sara Jacobs, Eric Sorensen and Everton Blair.

Trump barred transgender people from military service in an executive order on his first day in office. The Pentagon has not publicly responded to the letter.
