JD(U)’s Anant Singh revolts, backs rival in Bihar MLC poll

JD(U) MLA Anant Singh has openly revolted against his own party in the Bihar Legislative Council elections. On October 1, he accompanied Jan Suraaj Party candidate Anuj Singh to file his nomination in Patna.
Singh, who represents the Mokama assembly seat, travelled in an open jeep with the opposition candidate. He declared he would ensure Anuj Singh’s victory “at any cost”.
His target is Neeraj Kumar, the JD(U)’s sitting MLC seeking re-election from the Patna Graduates constituency. Singh said Kumar had tried to defeat him four times in assembly elections.
“I don’t know what the party line is because there is no need to fight for the party symbol in this MLC election,” Singh told reporters. The JD(U) is an ally of the ruling NDA in Bihar.
The party’s national secretary said the party president has been informed and appropriate measures will be taken. Eight Bihar council seats go to polls on October 23, with counting on October 27.
