Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor to Take Over as IAF Chief on Oct 31

Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor will take over as the next Chief of the Indian Air Force on October 31, succeeding the outgoing chief at the end of his tenure.
Kapoor is a highly experienced fighter pilot with thousands of hours on frontline aircraft. Over his career he has commanded key air bases and held senior operational roles, including positions shaping the IAF’s war-fighting strategy.
He takes charge at a busy time for the air force. The IAF is modernising its fleet with new fighter jets, indigenous aircraft like the Tejas, and advanced air defence systems. Managing these inductions while keeping squadrons combat-ready will be among his top priorities.
Border tensions with both China and Pakistan continue to demand constant air vigilance. The new chief will also oversee the IAF’s growing role in joint operations with the Army and Navy under the theatre commands plan.
Defence analysts say continuity will matter most. With major procurements and indigenisation targets on the table, Kapoor’s leadership will shape how quickly the air force transforms into a leaner, more technology-driven force.
