8 Lakh Form-6 Applications in 20 States in a Week

Around eight lakh Form-6 applications have been submitted in 20 states within a week of the Election Commission’s special enrolment drive, officials said, as the poll body races to add eligible voters left out during the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
The drive, launched on October 1, targets citizens whose names were missed during the revision exercise as well as first-time voters who have recently turned 18. Officials said most of the new applicants are young voters who were underage when the revision was conducted or had not applied earlier.
Nearly five lakh Booth-Level Officers have been deployed across the 20 states for door-to-door verification. Each officer has a weekly target of visiting 20 to 25 individuals whose names were removed during the revision, alongside enrolling newly eligible citizens.
The Commission has stressed that enrolment is a continuous process and that citizens can apply through the voters’ services portal, the voter helpline app, or through their local BLO.
The drive comes amid opposition criticism of the revision exercise and demands for the Chief Election Commissioner’s resignation over alleged irregularities. The Commission has rejected the charges, saying the revision was conducted under the law.
