Sensex, Nifty end higher; Nifty reclaims 25,800 mark

Indian stock markets ended higher on Monday, with the Nifty 50 reclaiming the 25,800 level. The benchmark rose 88 points to close at 25,822.20.
The BSE Sensex gained 369 points to finish at 84,326.31. Buying in metal, auto and realty stocks drove the rally, while banking shares also supported the index.
Broader markets outperformed, with midcap and smallcap indices rising about half a per cent each. Market breadth was positive as advancing stocks outnumbered decliners on the BSE.
Analysts said investors bought beaten-down shares after recent falls. Foreign investors have pulled out nearly 3.7 billion dollars from Indian equities in September, keeping sentiment fragile.
Traders will now watch global cues and the rupee’s slide for direction. The Nifty faces resistance near 26,000, while support sits around 25,600, analysts said.
Analysts said investors will watch the Reserve Bank’s policy stance and the start of quarterly earnings for further direction. Domestic institutions have supported the market on days when foreign investors sold.
