Nifty, Sensex Fall for Seventh Straight Week on High Crude

Indian equity benchmarks closed a seventh straight week in the red on September 26, weighed down by elevated crude oil prices and surging US bond yields. The Nifty 50 lost 0.88% for the week to settle at 23,140, while the BSE Sensex shed 0.54% to finish at 73,895, according to IANS.
The week was turbulent. Benchmarks slid more than 1.6% on Thursday under heavy selling pressure. Value buying drove a modest recovery on Friday — the Nifty rose 0.34% and the Sensex gained 315 points — but it was not enough to break the losing streak, the longest in recent months.
Brent crude held above $105 per barrel for most of the week, while WTI crude stayed above $90, driven by geopolitical uncertainty and supply concerns. The US 10-year Treasury yield crossed 5.10%, tightening global financial conditions and making emerging-market assets less attractive.
Foreign institutional investor selling has intensified sharply in recent weeks, becoming a major headwind, analysts said. With costly oil and elevated yields setting the tone, markets now look to global cues for any sign of relief.
