Nifty Logs Seventh Weekly Loss as Brent Holds Above $105

The Nifty 50 closed Friday at 23,140.50, up 0.34 percent, but still logged a 0.88 percent weekly fall — its seventh straight weekly decline, the longest since the 2020 COVID crash, per 5paisa and mfnewsdaily. The Sensex settled at 73,895.74, up 0.43 percent.
Brent crude held above 105 dollars a barrel, easing about one percent to 105.40 dollars on Friday amid Houthi attacks on Saudi infrastructure and reports of U.S.-Iran talks on a phased reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. 10-year Treasury yield stayed near 5.2 percent, its highest since 2007, while the rupee gained 19 paise to 95.80 to the dollar, HDFCSky and NationPress reported.
This week has only four trading sessions, as markets shut on Oct 2 for Gandhi Jayanti. Key events include the monthly and quarterly F&O expiry on Tuesday, Sept 29, U.S. PCE inflation data, and the Federal Reserve’s next move, with markets pricing about 68 percent odds of an October rate hike.
Foreign institutional investors were net sellers through the week, with one analyst source pegging outflows at about Rs 11,490 crore, per HDFCSky and getbelong.
With crude and yields elevated, markets head into the short week on a cautious note.
