Sensex, Nifty Fall Third Straight Day as FIIs Sell Rs 9,980 Cr

Indian benchmarks fell for a third straight session on Wednesday as foreign investors sold shares worth Rs 9,980.22 crore.
The BSE Sensex slipped 48.78 points to 72,480.29, while the NSE Nifty dropped 95.75 points, or 0.42 per cent, to 22,620.45.
FIIs have sold Rs 25,662 crore worth of shares in September, reversing net buying of Rs 49,831 crore over the previous two months, according to NSDL data.
The selling coincided with a surge in US Treasury yields, with the 10-year yield touching 5.24 per cent, its highest since 2007. Higher yields pull global money towards safer US assets.
Investor wealth worth Rs 11.55 lakh crore has been eroded in three sessions. Brent crude held near $103 a barrel, while the rupee appreciated 13 paise to 95.81 against the US dollar.
Why it matters: sustained FII selling could keep markets volatile until global yields cool or a US-India trade deal progresses.
