The Supreme Court has taken suo motu notice of recent sexual assault cases in Delhi-NCR and ordered a four-week safety audit of public spaces. The court acted on its own after a series of reported attacks.

The audit will cover vulnerable areas, street lighting, CCTV coverage, patrolling and district safety maps. The court wants a clear picture of where women and children face the most risk.

The judges flagged lax patrolling by authorities and pointed to a systematic failure in public safety. They said the gaps put ordinary people in danger every day.

LiveLaw reported that the court issued directions to make public spaces safer for women and children across the national capital region. The order applies to Delhi and neighbouring districts.

The authorities must file the audit report within four weeks. The court will then decide on further steps. The court wants a street-by-street report within a month, so that gaps can be fixed quickly.
