A federal judge has temporarily restored White House press credentials for CNN, MS NOW and Politico reporters, blocking a ban imposed by President Donald Trump. US District Judge Timothy Kelly issued a 14-day temporary restraining order in the early hours of 24 September.

Kelly, a Trump appointee, found the ban was likely unconstitutional and rejected the administration’s national security justification. Trump had announced the ban on 18 September on Truth Social, revoking the outlets’ hard passes over what he called “fake news” reporting.

The three outlets filed a joint lawsuit alleging viewpoint discrimination and due-process violations. Reporters were readmitted around noon on 24 September after an emergency hearing. The order covers about 78 journalists’ hard passes, Trump said the Justice Department will appeal, and Kelly set expedited briefing toward a longer preliminary injunction.

The case is expected to move quickly. A ruling on a longer injunction will decide whether the reporters keep access beyond the 14-day order.
