Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has sought the Centre’s support for a full commercial semiconductor fab in the Jewar region, along with dedicated rail-cargo links and transmission funding.

In an interview with The Hindu BusinessLine, Adityanath said the state wants a commercial fab under the India Semiconductor Mission, rail-cargo links under PM Gati Shakti between expressway clusters and freight corridors, and funding for inter-state transmission lines so Bundelkhand’s solar power can reach the national grid.

He said the state’s logistics policy aims to cut logistics costs from 13-14 percent of GSDP to the global benchmark of 8-9 percent. Dedicated freight corridors, National Waterway-1 and Noida International Airport are part of that plan.

Adityanath noted the India Semiconductor Mission has already brought a Rs 3,706-crore HCL-Foxconn unit to Jewar, with the Centre providing about Rs 1,500 crore in incentives. He added that the country’s first production-linked incentive payout went to a Noida manufacturer, and that UP now makes most of India’s mobile phones.

The pitch signals UP’s push to become a chipmaking hub and meet its one-trillion-dollar economy goal.
