Western disturbance to bring light rain to Himachal on Oct 5-6

The weather office in Shimla has forecast light rain across parts of Himachal Pradesh as an active western disturbance moves over the region on October 5 and 6. Districts including Kangra, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Mandi, Shimla, and Solan are expected to receive light showers, while the high-altitude areas of Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur will stay dry. Temperatures have already dipped in the higher reaches, with Tabo recording minus 3 degrees Celsius and Kukumseri 4.4 degrees.
Around 46 roads remain closed across the state following the monsoon season, which ran from June 30 and caused widespread damage. This year’s monsoon left 374 people dead and caused losses estimated at about 3,220 crore rupees. Officials have advised residents and tourists to remain cautious in vulnerable areas during the rain spell.
The fresh showers may bring relief to apple growers awaiting post-monsoon moisture. Tourists heading to the hills have been asked to check road status before travelling.
