Vande Bharat Crosses Chenab, Anji Bridges at 100 kmph

A Vande Bharat Express crossed the Chenab and Anji railway bridges at 100 kmph on October 2, setting a new railway record in Jammu and Kashmir.
The run followed a speed-limit upgrade on the 111-km Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-Banihal section. The maximum permitted speed rose from 75 kmph to 100 kmph.
It was the first time a train crossed both landmark bridges at the higher speed. The Vande Bharat was train numbers 26401/26404.
The Chenab Railway Bridge is the world’s highest railway arch bridge. It stands 359 metres above the riverbed and is 1,315 metres long, built to withstand winds up to 260 kmph.
The Anji Khad Bridge is India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge. It rises 331 metres above the riverbed and spans the deep Anji valley.
“The maximum permissible speed on the 111-km-long section has been increased from 75 kmph to 100 kmph,” said Uchit Singhal, senior divisional commercial manager.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared a video of the run on social media. The section is part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link, which connects Kashmir Valley to the rest of India.
