UPPCB puts cameras at 90 Noida sites to catch dust violations

The Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board has installed surveillance cameras at 90 construction sites across Noida. The cameras will watch whether builders follow dust-control rules.
The pan-tilt-zoom cameras will check for measures such as water sprinklers, anti-smog guns and wind-breaking walls. Developers who skip the rules will face action, according to the board.
A dedicated control room is being set up with the Commission for Air Quality Management in Delhi. Notices have already been sent to developers. They must follow the National Green Tribunal’s dust-control guidelines.
The move comes as winter approaches and air quality usually worsens in the region. Construction dust is a major source of pollution in the city. The administration is set to enforce GRAP III in Gautam Buddh Nagar. Penalties of nearly Rs 89 lakh were already issued in October for violations, mostly in the industrial sector.
The board plans to expand the camera network further. Remote monitoring should make violations harder to hide. The real test will be whether fines follow quickly.
