Tripura Royal Scion Pradyot Hints at Quitting Politics

Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma has hinted he will quit active politics. The Tripura royal scion made the announcement in an emotional social media livestream.
Debbarma, known as “Bubagra” to his supporters, said he is tired and wants to lead a simple, quiet life. But he promised he would stay in Tripura and remain with the people. “My power is not Tipra Motha. My power is being your Bubagra, someone you trust and love,” he said.
The announcement has shaken Tripura’s politics. Debbarma founded Tipra Motha in 2021 on the demand for “Greater Tipraland,” a separate state for tribal areas. The party is a major force among tribals, who decide the outcome in 20 reserved assembly seats.
He suggested his exit may be linked to the Tripura Accord. He said the Centre and Chief Minister Manik Saha have indicated the accord’s implementation will begin soon, and his active role may no longer be needed.
Thousands of supporters have reacted with concern. A plenary meeting after the September village committee elections is expected to discuss the party’s future and his role.
