Special Campaign 6: Centre’s file-cleaning drive enters October phase

The Centre’s annual clean-up drive has entered its main phase. Special Campaign 6.0 runs from October 2 to October 31 across ministries, departments and field offices. The Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances is the nodal department. After a preparatory phase in September when targets were set, the implementation phase focuses on cleanliness, disposal of pending files and references, records management, better use of office space, and scientific e-waste disposal. The campaign covers pending references from MPs, the PMO, state governments, inter-ministerial notes and cabinet papers, along with public grievances and appeals. An evaluation phase follows from November 16 to 30. The scale is large. The Department of Telecommunications alone listed 12,513 physical files for review. The Ministry of Steel and its public sector units plan 301 cleanliness activities, and aim to dispose of 20,763 physical files and 9,056 e-files, besides clearing 37 pending grievances to zero. The previous edition showed what the drive can deliver. During Campaign 5.0, the railways freed 6.06 lakh square feet of office space and raised Rs 570 crore from scrap disposal, while clearing all identified pendency targets. Progress this year is tracked on a dedicated portal, scdpm.nic.in/SpecialCampaign6.
