Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is in the United States from September 29 to October 5 for the G20 Trade Ministers' Meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, alongside bilateral talks aimed at advancing the India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement. The visit comes at the invitation of US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.

On the sidelines of the ministerial meeting, scheduled for September 30 and October 1, Goyal will engage bilaterally with his American counterpart on a balanced and mutually beneficial BTA and on finalising an interim trade deal in line with the joint statement issued by the two countries on February 7, 2026.

Earlier this month, Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal said the proposed trade deal has been more or less finalised, with the two sides now working on a framework for preferential market access. India is expected to push for a rules-based, WTO-centred global trading order while safeguarding policy space for developing nations. In Chicago, Goyal will also pay floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on Gandhi Jayanti.
