Centre clears Rs 5,548 crore MSP purchase of pulses, oilseeds

The Centre has approved procurement of pulses and oilseeds worth Rs 5,547.99 crore at minimum support price for the Kharif Marketing Season 2026-27. The decision was cleared by Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on September 30.
The purchase will cover Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana under the Price Support Scheme. It includes tur, moong, soybean and sunflower.
Uttar Pradesh gets the largest share at Rs 3,992.57 crore, including 4,66,000 tonnes of tur. Karnataka has been allocated Rs 1,107 crore for soybean, moong and sunflower. Telangana gets Rs 448.42 crore for soybean and moong.
In all, 7.11 lakh tonnes will be bought, comprising 5.21 lakh tonnes of pulses and 1.90 lakh tonnes of oilseeds. Central agencies Nafed and NCCF will carry out the purchase.
From this year, Nafed and NCCF can begin buying without waiting for a formal request from the state. The move aims to protect farmers if market prices fall below the support price as the fresh harvest arrives in mandis.
