Maharashtra to Check Out-of-State Vehicles From October 5

Maharashtra’s transport department will run a special drive from October 5 to October 17 targeting vehicles registered in other states but used long-term in Maharashtra.
Officials will check whether such vehicles meet registration and taxation rules. The drive was reported by the Free Press Journal.
The move matters most in Mumbai and its wider region, where people often move across state lines for work and keep their home-state number plates.
Vehicle owners are advised to keep their documents ready and follow official transport-department guidance on what the law requires.
Rules generally require re-registration in Maharashtra if a vehicle is used in the state beyond a set period. Tax differences between states are a common trigger for checks.
The 13-day drive will cover the state. Motorists using out-of-state vehicles long-term should verify their paperwork before October 5.
Fines and tax demands can follow for vehicles found flouting the rules. Transport officials say the drive is about fairness, since local owners pay state taxes in full.
Commuters who recently moved to Maharashtra for work should check the re-registration timeline. Official counters and the department’s website carry the full procedure.
