Maharashtra Begins Oct 5-17 Check Drive on Out-of-State Vehicles

Maharashtra’s transport department has launched a special drive to check out-of-state vehicles that have been operating in the state for long periods without proper registration or tax compliance.
The drive runs from October 5 to 17, with special teams conducting on-road checks across districts, News Nation reported citing the Free Press Journal.
Officials will scrutinise registration documents and tax payment records of vehicles registered in other states but used regularly in Maharashtra. Motorists in the Mumbai metropolitan region are expected to face the tightest checks.
The action follows recent findings in Pune, where the regional transport office identified 175 vehicles running on out-of-state registration numbers without compliance, according to Hindustan Times Pune.
In a related crackdown, the department is also probing 5,664 high-value vehicles registered outside Maharashtra during 2025-26. Officials estimate the state may have lost 2,500 to 3,000 crore rupees in registration and tax revenue from such vehicles, the Free Press Journal reported.
