J&K deports 150 Bangladeshi nationals to West Bengal by IAF flight

Jammu and Kashmir authorities deported 150 Bangladeshi nationals on Monday. They were flown from Srinagar to Bagdogra in West Bengal. A special Indian Air Force flight carried them.
The Border Security Force received the group in West Bengal. The BSF will handle their onward repatriation to Bangladesh. Officials said another batch of 150 would be deported on October 7.
The deportations followed police verification and Aadhaar-data checks. Action was taken under the Foreigners Act. Officials described it as a crackdown on alleged illegal residence.
The 150 were among about 500 individuals identified in a recent police survey. Most were Bangladeshis. Most had lived in the Kashmir Valley for years. They worked in menial jobs such as ragpicking.
The detained group also includes Rohingya immigrants from Myanmar. They will be deported in later batches.
A high-level Home Ministry committee found 7,656 Rohingya and 504 Bangladeshis documented in Jammu and Kashmir. Police have registered 117 criminal cases against the immigrants.
