IMD warns of heavy rain across 10 states this week
The India Meteorological Department has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in ten states between September 29 and October 1.
Very heavy rain is likely in Uttarakhand, east Uttar Pradesh, east Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, the Gujarat region and north Konkan. The Konkan and Goa region may also see very heavy showers.
Heavy rain is forecast for Tamil Nadu, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, interior Karnataka, Telangana, Kerala, Marathwada and Madhya Maharashtra.
A red alert is in place for Dehradun, Haridwar, Bageshwar and Udham Singh Nagar in Uttarakhand. Schools in some districts have been closed as a safety step.
Delhi-NCR is expected to get only very light rain or drizzle. Maximum temperatures in the capital will stay between 32 and 34 degrees.
Officials have asked people in hilly areas to avoid travel during heavy rain. Landslides and waterlogging are possible in vulnerable zones.
The warnings come as the southwest monsoon begins its withdrawal from northwest India.
