IMD forecasts heavy rain, thunderstorms across states today
The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across a wide swathe of the country on September 30, with many states expected to see unsettled weather.
Heavy rainfall is likely over Uttarakhand, South Interior Karnataka and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Northeastern states including Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura face thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds over the next two days, according to the IMD bulletin.
Other regions including Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Odisha and Telangana are also expected to see rain and thunderstorm activity, All India Radio reported.
The weather office has advised people to avoid exposed outdoor locations during thunderstorms and to follow local advisories. Motorists should take care where heavy rain reduces visibility or waterlogs roads.
What happens next: the IMD will issue updates as systems evolve, with the northeast expected to be most active over the coming two days.
