IMD warns of heavy rain, storms across India on Oct 7

The India Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rain and thunderstorms across large parts of the country on October 7. Scattered to fairly widespread rain with lightning and gusty winds of 30 to 50 kmph is very likely over northwest India. Isolated heavy rain or snowfall is likely over Uttarakhand, with isolated heavy rain over Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi. In the south, heavy rain is likely over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, coastal Karnataka and Lakshadweep through the week, with strong surface winds over coastal Andhra Pradesh. Thunderstorms with gusty winds are likely over Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha, and over Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Kerala districts including Ernakulam and Kottayam are on alert, and fishermen have been urged to exercise caution along the coast. Delhi-NCR may see scattered showers through October 8, which could briefly improve air quality before readings rebound. Travellers should check morning nowcasts, marine advisories and airline alerts before setting out.
