Aadhaar biometric must for subsidised LPG refills from Oct 1

Domestic LPG consumers must now complete Biometric Aadhaar Authentication to book refills at the regulated price with subsidy, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has said. The rule took effect on October 1, 2026.
As of September 19, about 27.43 crore consumers — 89.9 per cent of the total — had already completed authentication. Those who have done it need not act again; their refills continue as before.
For others, subsidised booking will be enabled only after authentication. It can be completed during cylinder delivery through the delivery person's mobile app, at the distributor's showroom, or on the oil companies' apps — IndianOil ONE, HelloBPCL and HP PAY.
The ministry says linking each connection to an Aadhaar-verified consumer prevents diversion of subsidised cylinders for commercial use and removes duplicate or ineligible connections. Consumers who opt out can still get LPG, but only at market price.
For over 32.7 crore domestic consumers, including 10.5 crore Ujjwala beneficiaries, the message is simple: verify once, cook on.
