Delhi Police have registered an FIR against AAP MLA Jarnail Singh and other party workers after a protest over an alleged slap by a Delhi minister turned confrontational.

The row began during a road inspection in Tilak Nagar on September 27. A purported video showed Delhi PWD Minister Pravesh Sahib Singh Verma slapping a youth, sparking outrage from the Aam Aadmi Party.

AAP leaders led by Saurabh Bharadwaj staged a protest demanding an FIR against the minister. The minister countered that AAP workers had abused his family during the inspection.

Police filed a non-cognisable report against Verma under Section 115 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita in connection with the alleged slap, officials said.

Separately, an FIR was registered against Jarnail Singh and others for allegedly assaulting a police officer during the AAP protest.

Why it matters: the dual police action has escalated a local inspection row into a full-blown political confrontation in the capital.
