Gadkari clears Rs 508.66 crore for Birbhum highways

Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has approved road projects worth Rs 508.66 crore for West Bengal’s Birbhum district.
The package covers two stretches of national highway. The first is a 91.90-km section of NH-14 from Bhimgarh to Nalhati via Mallarpur. The second is a 56.40-km section of NH-114 from Surul Village to Mallarpur. Gadkari announced the approval in a post on X on October 3.
The minister said the projects will improve road safety, reduce congestion and strengthen connectivity in the region. The stretches pass through key towns in Birbhum and connect important economic corridors in the state.
Birbhum is known for its agricultural economy and tourist sites including Shantiniketan. Better roads are expected to help farmers reach markets faster and boost tourism in the area.
The approval is part of the Centre’s push to upgrade national highways across eastern India. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has set ambitious targets for highway construction in the current financial year.
