CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s Z-plus security cover upgraded

The government has further upgraded Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s Z-plus security cover following fresh threat inputs and protests over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
Delhi Police has increased security outside Kumar’s residence, officials said. Additional personnel have been deployed at his New Moti Bagh home in Delhi, his family’s house in Agra and the Nirvachan Sadan headquarters, with CAPF, RAF, CRPF and Delhi Police involved. The CISF has added reserve personnel to his existing cover.
The move follows demonstrations against the CEC over alleged irregularities in the SIR exercise. Protesters traced his house, and the Indian Youth Congress confirmed a protest near his residence on September 27 demanding his resignation.
Z-plus is the second-highest security category in India after SPG cover given to prime ministers. Kumar already held Z-plus cover before the upgrade.
The Supreme Court has separately asked the Election Commission to respond to allegations about Kumar’s decisions during the revision drive.
