UP Renames Bhadohi District as Sant Ravidas Nagar Bhadohi

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced that Bhadohi district will be renamed Sant Ravidas Nagar Bhadohi, according to PTI.
The new name honours Sant Ravidas, the 15th-16th century Bhakti movement saint whose teachings on equality, devotion and human dignity are revered across north India, particularly among Dalit communities. Born near Varanasi, his hymns are included in the Guru Granth Sahib, and his birth anniversary is observed widely every year.
Bhadohi, located in eastern Uttar Pradesh, is widely known for its carpet-weaving industry, which employs large numbers of artisans and exports handmade rugs around the world. The region's carpets carry a geographical indication tag recognising their distinctive craftsmanship.
The renaming continues a series of place-name changes carried out by the Uttar Pradesh government in recent years, several of them honouring saints and cultural figures. Administrative formalities for the change, including updates to official records and signage, are expected to follow the announcement.
