Governor urges youth to join TB-free Mumbai drive

Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma has urged young people to become ambassadors of TB awareness to make Mumbai tuberculosis-free.
The Governor participated in the TB-Mukt Mumbai Awareness Walk at Bhavan’s College in Andheri on September 30. The walk was organised by the National Service Scheme of the University of Mumbai, the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai and the college.
He said tuberculosis is not merely a disease but a social challenge. He asked every section of society, particularly the youth, to come forward for the cause.
The TB Mukt Mumbai campaign was launched on May 26 at Dharavi. It is a joint initiative of the BMC and Maharashtra Lok Bhavan under the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. It is being implemented at the Lokmanya Tilak Hospital in Sion.
At the launch, the Governor had said that making Mumbai TB-free would set an example for public health governance for India and the world. He had noted that the city’s high population density raises the transmission risk.
Actor Aparshakti Khurana, university officials, NSS volunteers and students joined the Andheri walk.
