Night Light Exposure Linked to Higher Heart Risk, Study Finds

Exposure to light at night is linked to worse heart structure and higher cardiovascular risk, a new study finds.
Researchers tracked 73,286 adults and found those with high nighttime light exposure above 3 lux had a 29 percent higher risk of heart failure.
Stroke risk rose 33 percent, heart attack 24 percent, and cardiovascular death 26 percent. The study was published on September 9 in the European Heart Journal.
Shorter sleep explained 24 to 49 percent of the effect. The team was led by Jin Dai of Tulane University.
The findings held after adjusting for other risk factors. Doctors say keeping bedrooms dark is a simple step.
