Novo Nordisk's obesity drug CagriSema reduced food cravings and hunger while delivering 22.4 percent weight loss in a 52-week study presented at the EASD 2026 conference in Milan on September 30.

The trial used brain scans to show that the drug changed how the brain responds to high-calorie food cues. Participants reported less food noise, fewer cravings and lower hunger at both 22 and 52 weeks. The study won the Best Abstract Award at the conference.

CagriSema combines cagrilintide and semaglutide, targeting appetite and metabolism together. The 22.4 percent average weight loss beat placebo by a wide margin, with statistical significance.

Separate REIMAGINE trials showed the drug reduced organ fat in people with type 2 diabetes while maintaining bone health. Researchers said longer studies are needed to confirm the drug's safety and benefits in everyday use.

The results were presented to thousands of diabetes and obesity specialists at the Milan conference. Novo Nordisk said it will continue studying the drug's long-term effects on heart health.
