New lymphoma drug combo cuts progression risk by 51%

A combination of Genmab and AbbVie’s epcoritamab with standard chemotherapy has cut the risk of disease progression or death by 51 per cent in newly diagnosed lymphoma patients.
The Phase 3 EPCORE DLBCL-2 trial tested epcoritamab plus R-CHOP against R-CHOP alone in patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, the most common blood cancer of the lymph cells.
The risk reduction was 51 per cent, with a hazard ratio of 0.49, the companies announced on October 5. It is the first late-stage trial of a bispecific antibody combination to show a significant survival benefit in frontline DLBCL.
The safety profile was consistent with the known profiles of both treatments. Epcoritamab is an immune-based therapy that helps the body’s T cells attack cancer cells; it is not yet approved for newly diagnosed patients.
The companies said they will engage regulators worldwide. Genmab shares rose about 11 per cent on the news, while AbbVie shares gained 1.5 per cent.
