Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia’s The VVaan had a bumper opening weekend, collecting Rs 33.25 crore at the Indian box office.

The film opened at Rs 8 crore on Friday, jumped to Rs 11.25 crore on Saturday and soared to Rs 14 crore on Sunday, an 80 per cent growth over the weekend.

It is Sidharth Malhotra’s biggest opening weekend in a decade, giving the actor a much-needed commercial success.

Trade analysts said strong word of mouth and family audiences drove the Sunday surge, with the film outperforming Nani’s The Paradise in the same frame.

The VVaan will now be tested on Monday, the crucial first weekday, to see if it can sustain momentum into its second week. If the hold is strong, the film could emerge as one of the surprise hits of the festive season, industry watchers said. Overseas business also opened well, trade sources said, with Gulf markets contributing strongly to the film’s first-weekend collections.
