Ramayan Katha producer alleges negative marketing

The producer of Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha has alleged that his film was targeted by a negative marketing campaign before its release.

Prakash Mahobiya claimed that people were asked not to watch his film. When asked if the makers of Nitesh Tiwari’s big-budget Ramayana were behind it, he said he could not confirm it but that this was the information he had received.

The film, directed by Abhishek Singh and starring Dev Sharma, Anjali Arora, Sheel Verma and Rajniesh Duggall, released on September 25. Reports put its worldwide collection at around Rs 46 lakh.

“We are not afraid of the loss, but we are disappointed that not many people managed to watch it,” Mahobiya said. The makers now want to re-release the film in cinemas to give it another chance.

Bollywood Hungama noted that his remarks do not establish any link between Ramayana and the alleged campaigns. The film also faced trolling over its visual effects and promotional posters before release.
