PVR INOX Penalised For 22-Minute Ad Delay Before Movie

The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission-II, Hyderabad, has partly allowed a complaint against PVR Cinemas and PVR INOX Ltd over a 22-minute delay before a movie screening. The forum granted the complainant Rs 20,000 compensation and Rs 5,000 in litigation costs.

The complainant had booked tickets for a 10:35 pm show of Kuberaa on June 20, 2025. Ads and trailers ran from 10:30 pm until 10:52 pm, and the film began only after that — delaying his plans by nearly an hour.

The forum held that screening commercial advertisements beyond the permissible period amounted to a deficiency in service and an unfair trade practice. It imposed an additional Rs 50,000 as punitive damages, to be deposited with the District Consumer Welfare Fund.

The order also directed the cinema chain to discontinue the practice. Notably, PVR INOX’s Sanjeev Kumar Bijli recently told Bollywood Hungama the chain has reduced pre-show ad time from 15 to 10 minutes after earlier court rulings.
