Pooja Meri Jaan writer says film drew from Rhea’s media trial

Pooja Meri Jaan writer Navjot Gulati has said the film drew from Rhea Chakraborty’s media trial. He spoke to Bollywood Hungama in an exclusive interview on October 7.
Gulati said he wrote the film before Rhea’s case began. But he added that he was inspired by what happened to her. He called the witch hunt against her wrong at every level.
The film stars Mrunal Thakur, Huma Qureshi and Vijay Raaz. It is a courtroom drama now streaming on Zee5. The story follows Pooja, a woman blamed for a man’s suicide after she rejects him. She faces a long legal battle and a harsh public trial.
A Filmfare review noted the parallel with Rhea’s case. After actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death by suicide, Rhea faced intense media scrutiny. The review said the circumstances differ. But the question of how quickly a woman can become a villain feels familiar.
The film had a troubled path to release. Gulati earlier said the production house delayed it for four years over a better deal. It finally arrived on the streaming platform this month.
