Pan’s Labyrinth Gets 3D Conversion for 20th Year

Guillermo del Toro is personally supervising a 3D conversion of Pan’s Labyrinth for the film’s 20th anniversary, and the director insists no artificial intelligence is involved.
A behind-the-scenes featurette released on September 24 shows del Toro working frame by frame on the conversion of his 2006 dark fantasy, which won three Academy Awards. He has stressed that the process is handcrafted, pushing back against the industry’s rush toward AI-generated imagery.
The converted film returns to theaters on October 9, 2026, giving audiences a chance to see Ofelia’s labyrinth on the big screen in a new dimension. The anniversary push also includes new merchandise and retrospective screenings.
Del Toro announced the project in July, but the fresh featurette and confirmed release date mark the first concrete look at how the beloved fable has been rebuilt for 3D.
The 2006 film remains del Toro’s most decorated work, winning three Oscars for cinematography, art direction and makeup. Fans have long debated converting classics, but the director’s hands-on approach has won over skeptics.
