Other Mommy tracks $20M; Social Reckoning lags
Jessica Chastain’s horror film Other Mommy is tracking for a strong opening. The film is expected to earn about $20 million in its first weekend across 3,200 theaters.
The film opens on October 9. It is based on the novel “Incidents Around the House” by Josh Malerman. Early buzz is strong for the horror title.
In contrast, The Social Reckoning is tracking lower. Aaron Sorkin’s Facebook sequel is expected to open between $6 million and $10 million, per Boxoffice Pro. Some trackers put it at $4 million to $6 million.
The film cost $50 million to make. It will open in about 2,500 theaters. Reviews are under embargo until two days before release.
The Social Reckoning is a follow-up to the 2010 hit The Social Network. It looks at Facebook’s later years.
