Netflix develops Sesame Street film, extends deal to Season 62

Netflix is developing a Sesame Street feature film with Rideback and Sesame Workshop, and has extended its series deal through Season 62. The announcement came September 24 as part of a broader preschool and kids slate.
If it moves forward, the film would be the franchise’s first feature in more than a quarter-century, following 1999’s The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland and 1985’s Sesame Street Presents: Follow That Bird. No plot, cast or release date has been announced.
On the series side, Season 57 Volume 4 arrives November 23, 2026, with Volumes 5 and 6 following in 2027. The CGI spinoff Mecha Builders lands October 26. New episodes will also air day-and-date on PBS stations and PBS KIDS digital platforms in the United States.
The deal builds on Netflix’s May 2025 partnership with Sesame Workshop, struck after Warner Bros. Discovery declined to renew its series agreement. Netflix said kids and family programming made up 15 percent of total viewing hours in the first half of 2026.
Why it matters: the extension secures a 55-year-old children’s brand’s future while anchoring Netflix’s growing kids slate.
