Mirzapur duo reunite for ‘Empire’-style drama series
Divyenndu and Abhishek Banerjee, the breakout stars of Mirzapur, are reuniting for a new ‘Empire’-style drama series produced by Endemol.
The actors, beloved as Munna Tripathi and Compounder, will headline the yet-untitled series for Amazon’s streaming platform. Filmfare reports it will be an Amazon MX Player original. The project marks their third collaboration after the Mirzapur franchise and Mirzapur: The Movie.
The series is described as an empire drama exploring power, ambition and the dynamics of building and protecting one. Plot, setting and character details are being kept under wraps, with the makers aiming for a larger-scale world away from the duo’s gangster roots.
Divyenndu returned as Munna Bhaiya in Mirzapur: The Movie, which released in September, while Banerjee made his Tamil web series debut this year.
No release timeline has been announced. Mirzapur debuted on Amazon Prime Video in 2018, so the platform of the new series is being watched closely. Further details about the title and characters are expected soon.
