Jailer 2 Overseas Advances Cross $1 Million
Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 is off to a flying start overseas. Advance bookings have crossed $1 million ahead of its October 15 worldwide release.
Trade tracker Jerin Georgekutty reported the figure at about Rs 7.70 crore, or roughly $800,000, from limited screens. More screens are expected to open in the coming days.
Rajinikanth returns as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, the role that made the first Jailer a massive hit. Nelson Dilipkumar directs the sequel.
The film has been certified U/A with a runtime of around 165 minutes. The cast includes Vidya Balan, SJ Suryah and Mithun Chakraborty.
Expectations are sky-high. Coolie currently holds the Kollywood overseas record at $8.75 million, and trade watchers believe Jailer 2 could challenge it.
The first Jailer, released in 2023, was one of the biggest Tamil hits ever. The sequel has been in demand since the day it was announced.
Distributors are betting big, with premium pricing on opening weekend shows. Early reviews from the censor board screening have been positive.
