The film Warner Bros. once planned to shelve has crossed $100 million at the worldwide box office and may now compete for the Best Animated Feature Oscar.

Coyote vs. Acme earned about $99.1 million through its fourth weekend, crossing $100 million on Monday, according to Cartoon Brew’s weekend report. The film passed its $50 million purchase price in North America alone.

TheWrap reports the live-action hybrid contains enough animation to qualify for the Best Animated Feature category. Ketchup Entertainment, which bought and released the film, is expected to campaign for a nomination.

Warner Bros. had planned to write the film off for a $30 million tax benefit. The movie has now grossed more than that write-off and the sale price combined.

The film hits digital on September 29, one month after its theatrical release. No streaming home has been announced.

A nomination would be a striking turn for a film its own studio refused to release. Ketchup, an independent company with a tiny staff, has become an unlikely savior of shelved studio projects.
