Avengers: Endgame is back on top of the global box office. The re-release, titled Avengers: Endgame Encore, earned an estimated $86 million worldwide in its September 26-28 opening weekend, according to Deadline and Disney. That includes $26 million from domestic theatres and $60 million from international markets.

The haul ranks as the second-highest global debut ever for a re-release. The $26 million domestic opening is the third best for a re-release, behind the 1997 Star Wars reissue at $35.9 million and the 2011 Lion King 3D release at $30.2 million.

The re-release has pushed Endgame's lifetime global total to $2.885 billion, the second-highest gross of all time and about $39 million behind Avatar. Marvel Studios has now crossed $35.075 billion across its 38 films.

The Encore edition includes four minutes of extra footage, a new post-credits scene and a glimpse of Avengers: Doomsday, which opens December 18. In India, the film collected Rs 22.45 crore over its three-day opening, according to box office tracker Sacnilk.

A seven-year-old film already streaming on Disney+ just beat this weekend's new releases. It shows that nostalgia, packed with new scenes, remains one of cinema's most reliable draws ahead of Doomsday.
